And the Top Writers are...

Last night at Book Café with John Corey Whaley, we announced the top writers in our POV Story Writing Contest. The top nine writers are:

VICTORIA MACIAS for "Ghost Fields"
KATRINA DARWICH for "Sacrifices of Siblings"
MACKENZIE SMITH for "The Record"
LILLIAN HUGHES for "Baxter the Great"
VANA MATEVOSIAN for "Dun dun dun!"
ANGELO WATERHOUSE for "Chances"
HYLA ETAME for "Everlasting Memories"
ASHWINI DHAMODHARAN for "When Dreams Are True"
ALISSA SHTERENBERG for "The Afterworld"

These nine writers received a gift card from Barnes & Noble, plus a book on writing--their choice of Stephen King, Anne Lamott, or Annie Dillard. Oh, and applause!

In addition, we had five honorable mentions:

CATHARIYA RRUANGRUJIRA for "Magic Love"
ABRIELLE MARSDEN for "A Light in the Darkness"
CLARE COLLINS for "Grace"
PRESTON REYES for "Without Her"
JANE GRIGORYAN for "Is It So Simple?"

These five writers received a small gift card from Yogurtland, plus their choice of one of Corey Whaley's two older books (Noggin or Where Things Come Back). Also applause.

All of our other writers (we had 71 total for the contest!) received a gel pen in the color of their choice, plus two art postcards.

Those writers who did not attend Book Café but would like to pick up their prize or acknowledgment, please email Melissa at melliott@burbankca.gov or Anarda at awilliams@burbankca.gov to make arrangements to get your prize.
