The book received a positive response. Most liked the back-and-forth time jumps in the narrative, everyone liked the mute protagonist, people were fascinated by the mechanics of lock-picking and engaged by the descriptions of comic book pages drawn by the characters, and the book received a pretty high rating of 8.33.
Since this was the first meeting of the year, we selected two books (one for October and one for November) so that we will subsequently be on track to hand out the following month’s book at the next meeting. The choices were two more Alex Award-winners: Lexicon, by Max Barry, and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, by Matthew Quick. We will read whichever one arrives first for October, and save the other for November!
Other books we considered (in alphabetical order by author) included:
Ketchup Clouds, by Annabel Pitcher
Bellweather Rhapsody, by Kate Racculia
The Bride's Farewell, by Meg Rosoff
Lock In, by John Scalzi
The Martian, by Andy Weir
Our next meeting falls on October 6, but we will email members in a week or so when we get the next book, so you can come pick it up! Per our numbers last night, we will send one to Northwest, three to Central, and the rest to Buena Vista for pickup!
