Teen Review: The Night Circus

The Night Circus is a compelling 384-page fiction novel written by Erin Morgenstern. This book is mature and probably for high school students and up. It is not part of a series.

Celia Bowen is the daughter of the famous magician Prospero the Enchanter. He sets up a lifelong bet between a rival magician’s student and his own daughter. Celia and Marco (the other student) do not know each other until they unknowingly meet each other at performance tryouts in their 20s.

The imagery is beautiful, and I felt as if I was there, experiencing the circus first hand. At first I thought this book was about special people with the ability to control magic; a fantasy/adventure type of book. But as the story progressed, a romance blossomed between the two young characters. The Night Circus took me on a journey of captivating tales and magical moments. This book is one of the most well written I have ever read. I give it a five out of five because its plot was very well structured and the characters all had their own quirks and dark sides to them. This book won’t bore you and will fantastically spend your time.
