IOBE Rehearsal!

That's right, Readers' Theater cast(s), we have rehearsal for The Importance of Being Earnest NEXT WEDNESDAY, May 22nd, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. We want as many cast members there as possible (especially the ones who have missed lately!) and are hoping to do a pretty complete run-through. We'll be at BV, somewhere (either the auditorium or the storybook room or maybe a study room)--ask at the Children's Desk when you arrive.

Rehearsal from a former readers' theater production...
some of the actors have changed, but the enthusiasm remains the same!

Book Club Report

All three book clubs met during the past two weeks, for the last time this year:

The 6+7 Book Club greatly enjoyed Incarceron, by Catherine Fisher; all found the concept of the prison vs. the "real" world locked into its 18th-century perfection confusing at first, then fascinating, and most said they would read the sequel, Sapphique. The rating was 8 out of 10.

The 8+9 Book Club was somewhat divided on The Name of the Star, by Maureen Johnson, but a majority really liked its combination of murder mystery with the paranormal. We all agreed, however, that neither the hardcover (especially!) nor the paperback covers did the book justice in letting the reader know what it would be about. The rating was 8.

The 10-12 Book Club mostly enjoyed Divergent, by Veronica Roth (except for Anarda, who pulled down the voting curve!) and would continue the series (Henry already did, of course!). The rating was 7.75.

The Teen Book Clubs at Burbank Public Library meet from September to May (once per month) on the first Tuesday (10-12), the second Tuesday (6+7) and the third Wednesday (8+9) of the month. Members of each club vote to select a book they will read each month, and book club members receive paperback copies of each book, courtesy of the Friends of the Burbank Public Library. To register for one of the book clubs (or to be placed on the waiting list, if the book club is full), contact Melissa Elliott at melliott@burbankca.gov.

Anarda and I really enjoyed reading with all of you this year, and we hope to see you all summer long, too, at our Teen Summer Reading Program, BENEATH THE SURFACE. You can sign up for that starting May 28 by going to our website. More here soon...stay tuned!
