S U M M A R Y :
Tessa Gray is running out of time. As Mortmain continues to seek her out, she knows that the days with her fiancée, Jem, are numbered. The medicine that keeps him alive is simultaneously killing him, and she also struggles against her recently realized love for his best friend, Will. Mortmain requires only Tessa’s power in order to activate his monstrous army of automatons to overrun the Shadowhunters. The London Institute becomes desperate to find Mortmain before he is able to carry out his plans, but when the head of their order turns his back on them, how are they to strike against such a powerful foe?
The words of a dying Shadowhunter provide the clue they need to find Mortmain, but when Mortmain cuts off access to Jem’s medicine completely, Will and Tessa must act quickly in order to prevent tragedy from tearing them and their Institute apart. However, it is Tessa, in the midst of discovering the true nature of her abilities, who may harness the power to save them all.

R E V I E W :
This novel is a fantastic ending to the trilogy. The author wraps up all the loose ends and delivers a breathtaking story, and the plot definitely took me a few places I wasn’t expecting to go. There are moments where you laugh out loud and then there are moments where you wish the tissue box was a little bit closer. I wasn’t expecting to feel so emotionally worn out at the end, that’s for sure. The twists and turns are compelling, and once I picked up the book it was impossible to put down until I was finished.

If you have been reading the Mortal Instruments series (City of Bones, etc. by Cassandra Clare), put it aside and instead read the prequel series, The Infernal Devices! Having read both series, I found this trilogy to be much more enjoyable than the Mortal Instruments. As you begin the series, Tessa lives her life vicariously through novels and is a proper lady who would never be caught fighting. As she grows and develops in response to the challenges placed in front of her, she discovers the truth behind her powers and finds people who inspire her to fight for what she believes in and wants to protect. I found that I easily identified with Tessa, often thinking that I would have done the same thing in her shoes and wishing that I could swap book recommendations with her in the present era!

As this is the final book in a trilogy, I would say it is imperative to read Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince before diving into this gem! It gets 5 out of 5 from me. Absolutely spectacular!

Editor's note: There was apparently a Goodreads competition for best fan-made cover. While I prefer the real cover, these are pretty imaginative! Take a look. And here is an Infernal Devices playlist to go with the books...
